Narendra "Mallya" Modi?
The Gujarat government is likely to liberalize liquor policy in coastal parts of Gujarat to promote beach tourism.
Liquor is an integral part of beach tourism, so the government may consider this fact and relax the ban conditionally. Chief minister Narendra Modi and the cabinet will decide on the issue.
These are the comments of a ‘highly-placed source in the state government’ according to DNA.
For the development of beach and coastal tourism, the Gujarat government has started preparing a ‘beach tourism master plan’, providing a clear roadmap for the development of the sector. The issues hindering tourism development will be identified and addressed, the source said.
Meanwhile, 14 beaches and many coastal sites have been identified for development, and these will be promoted as beach tourism sites in Gujarat.
Now that is a tectonic shift away from the jaljeera strategy peddled by the state Tourism department a few years ago. Jaljeera does not boost tourism, all it stimulates is bowel movement.

In the city of Ahmedabad, esteemed AMC corporators threw files and threatened each other with joote-chappal at the general body meeting of the municipal corporation instead of discussing civic problems. It all started when a Congress member likened Chief Minister Narendra Modi to Dr. Vijay Mallya, for dressing up and getting his pictures taken at the Riverfront.
Seems like Congress touched a nerve. I know, dear readers, it’s reprehensible and inexcusable to talk about liquor baron Vijay Mallya in Gandhi’s Gujarat. Yet I succumb to Mallya-mania once again. Bashing Dr. Mallya has become a favorite past-time for many legislators and public persons in Gujarat off-late. Why not publicly ridicule the icon of a morally degenerate industry and score some brownie points with a misguided and befuddled electorate?
Vijay Mallya is a businessman, and a good one at that. He is driven by the urge to excel and outperform his competitors. He deals in a legitimate product that the market demands, and unlike the holy bootleggers of Gujarat, he is a man of ethics, because he runs a legitimate business that is accountable to his customers and the laws of the country. That means he will never adulterate your rum with moonshine. Perhaps there is something perverse with Prohibition itself?
We look forward to the government’s steps towards relaxation of liquor policy and endorse the progressive new look of CM Narendra Modi.
